ABOUT KMC MAX
Who we are
An incredible story!
KMC MAX began operations in 2025, acquiring KMC Kootrac technology and relocating production to modern industrial facilities in Montevideo, Uruguay.
But its history begins in 1941, when the then-FMC company was commissioned to undertake an incredible, almost unfeasible challenge for the time: to build the world’s first amphibious battle tank. Thus, the LVT-1 (Landing Vehicle Tracked) was born, an incredible project for its time that proved the company’s technological capabilities.
In 1961, FMC was once again called upon to face a new enormous challenge: it was contracted by the US Army to develop a high-performance, rapid personnel transport tank for the Vietnam War.
This new machine had to be capable of operating in extremely diverse conditions, ranging from swamps to mountains, while maintaining excellent traction. Because it transported personnel, it had to be both fast and mechanically robust and reliable. This is where our machine’s chassis was born! The base, in its military version, remains a recognized platform to this day, serving as an essential and significant machine during the Kuwait War, particularly in the famous «Desert Storm» operation, due to its high traction, speed, and reliability.
FMC recognized the chassis’s versatility and, after the Vietnam War, created a civilian version based on it as the foundation for multipurpose machines. At that time, in the 1970s, still produced by FMC, its ability to work on slopes and swamps made the machine world-renowned. Its multipurpose platform is used in a variety of activities, including forestry, construction, power grid maintenance, and firefighting, as well as in extreme climates, such as the cold of the Canadian and Russian mountains, the desert heat, or the unbearable humidity of the swamps of the southern United States. Truly, nothing stops this machine!
In 1988, FMC spun off, focusing on the agricultural sciences sector, where it has since become a global powerhouse.
For the next 37 years, the machine was produced in the mountains of British Columbia, Canada, until recently, when the CIR Group of Uruguay, together with USAmericas of the United States, acquired the technology and transferred production, manufacturing processes, and technology to a modern factory in Montevideo, Uruguay, bringing the KMC MAX into its new future.
The KMC MAX maintains FMC’s original fundamentals of traction, robustness, and performance, but on a modern platform, prepared for the most rigorous safety and ergonomic tests, with modern, comfortable, and safe cabins.
Everything that FMC started and made it famous, but for the contemporary world: KMC MAX – The Power of Traction.
